If you can afford it, a fiesta ST is an excellent first car. The main thing with a first car is to not be too car poor. Not worth it as a kid. But if the money isnt a big deal, its the easiest stick car to drive that I have ever driven and it has just enough power to be fun while not being dangerous. The really cool version was the Festiva GTA and GT-X models which had a DOHC 1.3 liter engine that revved to 7,000 RPM. Although never as popular as simlarly sized rivals from Honda or Toyota, the Festiva still found itself in the hands of Japanese enthusiasts who enjoyed the cars on the country's technical race circuits and tight winding roads. Great cars, my 51 plate fiesta 1.25 was my first and it lasted two whole years of abuse from me, I did not take care of that car at all. For 500 quid I couldn't have asked for a better car. I drove a 2012 ford fiesta Se for a month and a half while my car was in the shop. Things I liked: The car is very light and nimble, braking and cornering is pretty sharp. The electronic aids TCS, abs and Vsc do their jobs pretty good. Torque vectoring to the front wheels is amazing.
